Guitar Kits What Are They ?

So guitar kits what are they? And why would you want to buy one for yourself? Guitar kits are DIY (do it yourself) one that you put together at home. This is an option that many people have not considered before, but when it comes to purchasing a new guitar some feel that this is a good choice. Essentially, everything you need to build a complete guitar that will play just like a store bought version is available in DIY guitar kits. The money you can save can be tremendous. Now, you might be thinking “put a guitar together myself? That sounds like a lot of hard work”. Well, if you’re building it from scratch (i.e. cutting the wood, drilling the holes, sanding, etc) then yes that would certainly take lots of time and skill. However, with a guitar kit you can actually put together a guitar by yourself with very little knowledge or tools.

Guitar kits are essentially the combination of all individual guitar parts needed to put together a fully functional guitar. All challenging wood cutting, drilling and shaping has already been professionally done, as well as fret leveling and dressing. This is what you generally get:

  • Body
  • Neck
  • Pickups
  • Control Plate assembly
  • Strings
  • Bridge
  • Electrical wires
  • Tuning pegs
  • Screws
  • Toggle switch, etc.
  • Strap Butons

You’ll receive the guitar completely unassembled and then  piece-by-piece your will have to put everything together.

There are many DIY guitar Kits you can choose from but by far electric and bass guitars are more plentiful, where as  acoustical guitars are a bit harder to find and most first time builders prefer electric because acoustical  are harder to assemble. There are lots of electric guitar & bass guitar kit suppliers that offer a range of different body types.

Choosing the right Kit really depends on your budget and your level of experience. Chances are if this is your first DIY guitar kit you don’t want to spend a ton of money on it. Rather, you want to get your feet wet in the craft of building your own guitar and then later upgrade to better kits if you decide you like it.

However, if you feel your ready to take on something a little more challenging here are some nice Kits that are reasonably  priced
